Romanian president receives Croatian Prime Minister
ZAGREB, Jan 28 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor started her visit to Romania on Friday by talks meeting with Romanian President Traian Basescu.
The Romanian president said his country unconditionally and unreservedly supported Croatia's EU admission, stressing that Bucharest will not require any additional mechanisms for Zagreb.
President Basescu has recently refuted claims by Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi who said Romania would request the introduction of additional mechanism for cooperation and verifications for Croatia, should Germany and France continue to block Romania's entry to the Schengen area.
President Basescu said Romania must meet its obligations to be able to be admitted to the Schengen area and not make conditions, stressing that Bucharest will not set conditions for Croatia's EU entry.
Kosor thanked him for the support and advices that Romania showed to Croatia on its path to joining the European bloc.
The Croatian PM also talked about the completion of Croatia's EU entry negotiations by the end of June, particularly reflecting on the two remaining and most difficult chapters - Chapter 8 on Competition Policy and Chapter 23 on the Judiciary and Fundamental Rights.
Kosor expressed satisfaction with the fact that the completion of Croatia's EU entry talks was among the priorities of Hungary's EU presidency.
Kosor and Basescu concluded that by focusing on the region, Croatia and Romania could be a factor of stabilisation and association with Euro-Atlantic associations, the statement said.
In that context, Kosor spoke of Croatia's support to the neighbouring countries, adding that Croatia made its translation of the European Union acquis communautaire available to its neighbours, stressing that this was not only a symbolic support, given that the translation is worth EUR 8 million.
Relations between Croatia and Romania are very good, although there is room to advance economic cooperation.
The talks also focused on the position of national minorities.
