Croatia launches anti-corruption campaign
ZAGREB, Feb 25 (Hina) - The Croatian Government on Wednesday launched an HRK 2.36 million anti-corruption campaign to raise the awareness about the harmfulness of corruption and about the importance of including members of the public in various forms of the prevention of corruption.
The animated film "Propast Drustava (The Collapse of Society)" will be shown on TV and anti-corruption fairs will be held in town squares as part of the campaign.
At the official inauguration of the action, Justice Minister Ivan Simonovic said that "the government, nongovernmental organisations, the judiciary, the academic community and the media are urging citizens to take an active role in the struggle against corruption".
He said that a successful struggle against corruption, based on the abuse of power and on passive citizens who allow to be blackmailed and mistreated, is crucial for a sound future of the Croatian society.
The minister said that over recent months instruments for countering corruption had been significantly strengthened with the adoption of a series of relevant laws.
