High jumper Blanka Vlasic has been selected Athlete of the Year, while Agrokor owner Ivica Todoric was selected Businessman of the Year.

About 300 journalists, editors, media directors and representatives took part in the vote.

Accepting the award on Saturday, Kosor said it was no mean feat to receive an award from the press, "persons who are critical by the nature of things".

"I see today's award presentation as a commitment to the future and hope that I will justify this award."

Kosor said she was trying in her political activity to bring mutual respect and respect for a different opinion, to build bridges between different opinions.

She said the only way politicians could work was to be willing to work and serve Croatia's citizens round the clock.
